IGCSE English (Second Language)
(IGCSE - International General Certificate of Secondary Education), Cambridge International Examinations
Designed to be studied from 14-16 years, "the syllabus reflects the widespread use of English as a medium for academic instruction, commercial activity and entertainment."

TOLES - Test of Legal English Skills
There are 2 TOLES exams - TOLES Advanced and TOLES Foundation. The tests allow lawyers and law students to prove their ability to cope with everyday practical tasks in English when working in a legal office or studying in the law faculty of a UK or US university.

TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language
The TOEFL test measures ability in the use and understanding of North American English in an academic setting (university/college). "A TOEFL score is an entrance requirement in many north american colleges". The test is usually taken on a computer, with an alternative paper and pencil version if computer based testing is unavailable.

TOEIC - Test of English for International Communication
The TOEIC test assesses English language ability in the workplace as opposed to academic English. "It is globally recognised by companies, used in recruitment and to give a common standard of measurement."

Trinity English ESOL - Spoken Grade Examinations
Beginner - Advanced - "a series of twelve graded levels of spoken English examinations, taking students from their first steps in English to near first-language fluency ".

Trinity English ISE - Integrated Skills in English
ISE I - (Pre-Intermediate / Intermediate), ISE II - (Upper Intermediate), ISE III - (Advanced). "A series of three innovative examinations that enable learners of all ages to demonstrate their spoken and written English across a range of real tasks."

Trinity English TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Exams/Awards)

CertTESOL - Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
"A first level qualification for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages."

LTCL TESOL - Licentiate Diploma in TESOL
"Equivalent to level 2 of the British Association of TESOL, accepted as full TESOL qualification by employers worldwide including the British Council."

CertTEYL - Certifcate in Teaching English to Young Learners
"This is similar to the CertTESOL, however the course is a little longer, with more teaching practice, and is designed for teachers of English to young children."

Cambridge ESOL General/Academic English Exams (Main Suite)
KET - Key English Test
Elementary level - the first level of the five Cambridge Main Suite examinations. There are two versions of the KET exam: KET and KET for Schools. Both follow exactly the same format and the level is identical. The only difference is that the content and treatment of topics in KET for Schools have been particularly targeted at the interests and experience of school pupils.

PET - Preliminary English Test

Upper Intermediate - "widely recognised in commerce, industry and by educational institutions as proof of language ability."

CAE - Certificate in Advanced English
Advanced - "recognised by the majority of British universities as fulfilling English Language entrance requirements."

CPE - Certificate of Proficiency in English
Approacing the level of a Native Speaker - the final level of the five Cambridge Main Suite examinations.

IELTS - International English Language Testing Service
IELTS is recognised as an entrance requirement by British, Australian, New Zealand and Canadian universities and other courses.

Cambridge ESOL Professional English Exams
BEC - Business English Certificates
BEC Preliminary (Pre-Intermediate),  BEC Vantage (Upper Intermediate),   BEC Higher (Advanced) are designed to test English language ability used in the context of business.

BULATS - Business Language Testing Service
A multilingual assessment service for companies that require a rapid, accurate means of assessing language skills in English, French, German and Spanish. BULATS tests cover listening, speaking, reading and writing using a combination of computer-based tests, written papers and face-to-face speaking tests.

ICFE - International Certificate in Financial English
Designed to help finance professionals demonstrate they have the financial English skills they need, Cambridge ICFE is set at Levels B2-C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Cambridge ILEC - International Legal English Certificate
The International Legal English Certificate (Cambridge ILEC) assesses English language ability at Levels B2 and C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Cambridge ESOL Young Learners Tests
Starters, Movers and Flyers - English Tests for Young Learners
Designed to assess the English of primary learners between the ages of 7 and 12, the highest level (Flyers) is roughly equivalent in language level to KET (elementary see above).

ESOL - Skills for Life
Skills for Life Certificates are the UK government's strategy for improving adult literacy, numeracy and ESOL skills in the UK. All qualifications for adult learners of English in the state sector which relate to the strategy must be based on the Adult ESOL Core Curriculum - a development of the National Standards for Adult Literacy.
Certificate can be taken at five levels - Entry 1 - 3 and Level 1 & 2 these equate to Beginner - Advanced (CEF levels A1-C1)

ESOL for Work (UK only)
Developed to meet the needs of employers and to support migrant and settled workers who are in work or intending to work in the UK.

Cambridge ESOL English Language Teaching Exams/Awards
CELTA - Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults
An initial qualification for people who wish to become professional teachers of the English language. It is accepted throughout the world by many establishments.

CELTYL - English Language Teaching to Young Learners
Available as an extension course (YL extension to CELTA) or a course in its own right (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Young Learners - CELTYL).

DELTA - Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults
An award for experienced teachers of English working in language schools or colleges.

IDLTM - International Diploma in Language Teaching Management
The IDLTM is a globally recognised qualification that enables language teaching professionals to apply insights and skills derived from management theory and practice to their work as language teaching managers.

ICELT - In-service Certificate in English Language Teaching
(replaces COTE - Certificate for Overseas Teachers of English)
An early in-service award for teachers working in schools and/or language schools suitable for non-native and native speakers of English.

TKT - Teaching Knowledge TEST
The TKT is a test on teaching English to speakers of other languages. It aims to increase teachers' confidence and enhance job prospects by focusing on the core teaching knowledge needed by teachers of primary, secondary or adult learners, anywhere in the world.
